The potential form expresses the ability to do something or the possibility that something can happen. It is formed by adding られる to u-verbs and える to ru-verbs, and is commonly used to describe what someone can or cannot do.

How it works

  • Verb (masu form) + rareru/eru
  • Some verbs: Potential form (かのうけい)
